Jan Adolf Brandeis (June 9, 1818 in Nova Ves near Bozejov - November 13, 1872 in Prague) painter and draftsman, especially portraits


He was a student of the Prague Academy since 1837 as the director of Tkadlik. He was originally a porcelain painter in Smrzovka. From Prague he went to Munich to study with painter Josef Bernhardt. In Paris he copied works of famous masters and in 1854 exhibited these copies in the Union of Fine Artists. In 1861 he arranged a photographic workshop in Prague. He colored his photographs with pastel colors. From 1840 he exhibited his watercolor and drawing portraits. He was known mainly as a portraitist, his work was in the picture gallery of the Friends of Fine Arts in Prague.
