Václav Novák Vojtěch - painter

Born 19th of November 1901 in Semile, died 12th of September 1969 in Jindřichův Hradec. He studied figurative painting at the professors V. Bukovac, M. Pirner and V. Nechleba at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1918-1926) and then in Paris. He was a member of the Artistic Couple with whom he exhibited since 1929, a member of the Group 58. The early work was inspired by the country of many ways (England, Belgium, Italy, etc.) and the Prague surroundings (Hlubočepy, Šárka). He drew a number of motifs in the Krkonoše Mountains, the Orlické Mountains and the Vysočina Mountains. From the end of the 1930s, he painted the South Bohemian landscape in the Nežárka basin. He used simple artwork to create ballad-like paintings, emphasizing a solid compositional structure. He was also interested in the experiences of Picasso and Braqua. After 1945 he painted the industrial landscape of Chomutov. 1952 participated in the competition for decorating the foyer of the National Theater in Prague. Represented in NG collections in Prague. The GHMP, the State Gallery in Zlín, the West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen. AJG Hluboká nad Vltavou, GVU Karloby Vary and elsewhere.
