The Czech-German painter Gabriel von Max (1840-1915) was also known in his time as the painter of madonnas, der Maler der Madonnen. Madonna in a white robe with wide sleeves and a white headdress, holding a seated, fair-haired baby Jesus wrapped in a whitish cloth at her right side. A red curtain is drawn in the background in the manner of Renaissance Marian paintings by the Venetian masters. The painting does not have its original format, it has been cropped and framed. Gilded oval decorative frame decorated with large embossed flowers with leaves and ribbons, ornament of laurel leaves, stylized band with leaves and ornaments. Central Europe 1880 - 1900. Total size with frame 96 x 81 cm.
